Reichenau Mission

Approx. 15km from Underberg on the R617 towards Pietermaritzburg. View a fascinating history of the church and mill. Walk down the steep stairs behind the mill to the waterfall on the Polela River.

Himeville Museum

Situated on the main road through Himeville. Open 9am to 4pm daily. Closed on Mondays. Displays show Settler homes, introduction of trout, San/Bushman Rock Art and many more. Tel: 033 702 1184

The Underberg Cheesery

2km on the Drakensberg Garden’s Road offering a delicious variety of cheeses and yoghurts made daily with viewing windows to watch how its done. Open daily from 9am to 4pm.

Hiking for the family

Unsually in the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Wilderness Area.
With children – try Cobham for easy hikes on the banks of the Polela River, Bushmans Nek and Drakensberg Gardens.

Hiking for the serious

In the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Wilderness Park. Try any of the “peaks” like Rhino, Siphogeni and Khanti. From Cobham you can also access and the Giant Cup Hiking Trails. The whole trail from Sani Pass to Bushmans nek is a 5 day hike, but you can hike sections of the whole trail in one day. For those with passports and 4x4’s Hodgsons Peak are also accessible from Sani Top Chalet at the top of Sani Pass. Stay 2 night at Sani Top and you can also climb Thabana Ntlenyana – the highest peak south of Kilimanjaro. There are many caves in which to overnight = Bookings 033 845 1000 KZN Wildlife.

Bushman Painting Hikes

Not recommended for the unfit or young children. Fully guided hike with a registered/ qualified guide. Short or long hikes available, with all entrance fees and light packed lunches included.

Dairy visit

Experience the daily milking at one of the dairy farms in the area. Contact Sani Pass Tours to make arrangements on 033 701 1064. Cows and farmers wait for no man, so please make your arrangements well in advance to avoid missing the experience.

Kenmo Lake

Approx. 3km from the Himeville/ Loteni – Sani Pass/Pevensey crossroads towards Loteni. Turn into Hazeldene Drive and Kenmo is on the left. Best seen in autumn but a wonderful picnic spot all year around. Please – no braais.

Himeville Nature Reserve

Just outside Himeville. Turn at the museum, cross Sutton street and drive straight into the gates of the reserve. A small herd of Blesbok and Wildebeest are residents in the reserve. Two trout dams. Perfect for picnics and there is a braai area.
